“STATOZ QUO” ARE AUSTRALIA’S SALUTE TO BRITISH ROCK LEGENDS, ‘STATUS QUO’
Based in Brisbane, the band is Australia’s longest running specialist ‘Status Quo’ Tribute Band, operating since 1999.
For more than a decade ‘Statoz Quo’ has been delighting Australian audiences with energetic and authentic renditions of ‘Status Quo’ classics, all making for a great night of rockin’ entertainment. ‘Status Quo’ is still one of Britain’s biggest bands and the statistics speak for themselves. They have sold more than 118 million records worldwide, have had more Top Ten hits than any other band in UK chart history (including songs like “Rocking All Over The World”, “Down Down”, “Whatever You Want” and many more) and have made more appearances on “Top Of The Pops” than any other band.
The authentic ‘Statoz Quo’ is a ‘Status Quo’ tribute of seasoned “Status Quo” performers, all of whom have a real passion for the band. The band has earned a reputation of delivering the closest sound to ‘Status Quo’ you will ever hear, and use three tonnes of authentic stage equipment to deliver the ‘Status Quo’ sound and vision experience.
We guarantee that ‘Statoz Quo’ will leave you wanting more!
Enjoy the gig!
Steve Brewster
Lead Guitar and Lead Vocals
Steve Brewster was born in Yorkshire, England, grew up during the classic 70’s era of Status Quo and although he had heard many of their songs earlier, his first recollection of the band was when he was listening to a version of Bye Bye Johnny by the band “Mud”. His mates politely listened to it and then said, “now here’s a real treatment of the song” and from that point on, Steve was hooked! Like other band members, Steve has met the real Status Quo on numerous occasions.
His first album was the “Quo” album followed by the timeless live album and the collection just went on from there. At 14 he picked up his first guitar and without any lessons fumbled through numerous Status Quo songs purely through listening to them “again and again” ..pardon the pun (some would say stubbornness) until he knew the lead breaks which is why a lot of Steve’s lead breaks are influenced by the great 70’s era.
Steve moved to Australia in 1980 and became a citizen shortly afterwards.
Steve has been a member of the band since inception in 1999 and also plays n another popular band the “PartyStarters”, with fellow member Deefer from time to time. With this band, Steve played on stage with the likes of Doc Neeson of the Angels, Richard Clapton, Margaret Urlich, Glen Shorrock, Skunk Baxter (Doobie Brothers and Steeley Dan), Lee Kernagan and even some less “Quo Like” artists such as Kamahl, Normie Rowe and even Murray from the Wiggles (long story but at least the music was rock).
Steve’s gear offers no great surprises for anyone who follows Status Quo with Original Special Edition Fender Telecasters, Vox AC30 Amps & the Boss GT-6 effects pedal.

Deefer
Rhythm Guitar and Lead Vocals
Deefer bought his first record at the age of 10. It was Status Quo’s hit single “Down Down”. It had a profound effect on him, soon after he owned his first guitar.
Deefer did’nt realise that when he first bought that guitar that it would take him about 25 years to work out how to play “Down Down” like the Status Quo does he laughs.
David has spent most of his life since playing in bands mainly around Brisbane, including with Steve Brewster in the “The Party Starters”.
Deefer has great feel for the Status Quo material and adds a layer of magic to bands’ sound. He plays an American Fender Telecasters with thick strings (aka “Rick Parfitt) through a classic Vox AC30 Valve Amplifier (the same as Status Quo use) producing that great original Status Quo sound.
Deefer has been a member of the band since inception in 1999.
Hilton ‘Noddy’ Marsh
Bass Guitar and Backing Vocals
plays the part of Allan Lancaster & John “Rhino” Edwards…(you’ll have to wait & see on the night ), Quo’s inimitable bass man of the show. Hilton has an uncanny knack of moving like the man himself …never standing still for a moment. Noddy is a huge fan of Allan Lancaster and tries to incorporate his superb playing style and power by blending both these influential Quo legends essences into a sound that personifies Status Quo.
His interest in music started in the 70’s as an obsession with the TV show Countdown and me pretending my tennis racket was Angus Young’s guitar. Sensing I might have some hidden musical talent my parents sentenced me
(I was only nine) to four years of twice-weekly guitar lessons. My music teacher was an 8o year old spinster who enjoyed belting me with a wooden ruler. She thought Peter Paul and Mary played the devils music. Hmmm!
Many years later he made a second attempt to learn guitar. But it was nothing more than a devious attempt to get closer to Marietta Van der Sneer. By the time I turned 30 my childhood dreams of being a rock god were overshadowed by dirty nappies, baseball on Sunday mornings and a 60 hr a week career in procurement. Finally in 1994 a mate offered to teach me bass, so long as I would join his U2 covers band.
Within a year Noddy was writing, recording and performing with the alternative blues pop outfit Benzene. I was playing regular pub gigs with an 80’s covers band called Mr jinks, a high-energy blues band called Panama and touring the East Coast of Australia with the highly successful Top 40 outfit, Spank The Monkey. I also spent two years playing Motown in a 10 piece band and still enjoy the odd gig with my old mates from Ripped Van Wrinkle (1969).
Some of my career highlights to date include; support gigs with James Morrison, Regurgitator; Bardot and the Screaming Jets. I’ve played in front of 5000 people at the Italian/Australian festival in Ingham; been a finalist in the Hardrock Café rock awards; been a finalist in the Samsung Entertainers of the Year awards; twice won heats of the Qld Rock Awards and got to record with Canadian rockers,Twisted Catz.
Gary O’Brien
Drums and Percussion
Gary is also a huge Status Quo fan following the band’s career since the early days. Gary started his drumming career in Sydney, and playing in ‘Flowers’ early days which went on to become ‘Icehouse’. Gary was the drummer for ‘Bop’N The Blues’, one of Brisbane’s popular Rock & Roll bands and recorded on the debut Wintersun 1995 CD.
More recently Gary was the drummer for bands “Just Cruisin” and another Quo tribute band “Quo Vadis”, Gary’s dexterity knows no bounds as he drives the band along with his pulsing percussion. His greatest thrill came from actually playing a live gig in front of the members of ’Status Quo’ on their 2000 tour of Australia.
Gary plays a DW custom Kit with a custom Matt Letley Blue Moon bass drum head. He uses Paste 2002 Crash & Ride Cymbals, and Paiste Signature Sound Edge Hi-Hats. (Same as Status Quo’s drummer Matt Letley)
